Satellite remote sensing approach is ideal for monitoring large water bodies (lakes, seas, ocean) . It hold a advantage over field measurement methods in its ability for synoptic data acquisition mode and periodic onsite revisit capability. In our research, we demonstrate the capability of time-series satellite image analysis, particularly that from ASTER data to deduce temporal patterns of spatially distributed water quality parameters through the use of physically-based bio-optical and thermal models
The images below depict the varying spatial patterns of water quality in Laguna Lake, Philippines for November 2001 using an algorithm specific for ASTER AM-1 data (Click to enlarge)
