 Fiji (Feb 24 - Mar 1, Mar 6,7)

We visited some catchments and institutes with researchers from the University of the South Pacific (USP). We also collected samples of corals and starfishes for genetic analysis.

We took a small aircraft for domestic trip from Nadi to Suva in Fiji. We had a seminar at USP, presenting our several research topics. Left: Prof. Leon Zann (Director, Marine Studies Programme, USP).
We had a field trip along the Coral Coast, south of Fiji. There are well-developed fringing reefs. We can see evidence of soil erosion (bare areas particularly on steep slopes) in Fiji.
Bridge over the Navua River, which drains one of the largest catchments in Suva. Mangrove replantation at the river bed.
There are many corals in Suva Reef. Collected Crow-of-thrown starfish. Prof Zann records a video of the COTS samples.
